Some people may enjoy their byline above the title, but I was a little awkward at seeing my name on the top of the page, followed by a page of my film reviews. Not that I’m boasting–it’s just that it seemed a little over the top, and a multitude of thoughts followed — like had I done a good enough job to warrant such a byline? Maybe the byline was there to distinguish me as an individual writer rather than representing the whole newspaper, however I was referred to once, on another page some other time, as “our reviewer”. I wasn’t told why, but it looked like the newspaper was giving me some kudos, under a veteran editor. Humbling.
