When is the right time to stop writing a column? I’ve had three columns in my writing life, which were discontinued, but by whom? Did the writer, that’s me, stop it, or the editor/publisher? I’m the kind who likes to keep something going, so going by that you may tell where my allegiances lie. There may be a time to stop a column, from a writer’s perspective. It may be when there isn’t a game plan, but one is running on instinct, and there isn’t a formula present, there isn’t something to “execute” in the column. For me, it’s when there is a sense of finality about the column, that it’s exhausted or repetitive. That’s when one can up the ante and improve the column or move on.
